From Courtney Love’s Facebook post locating the missing flight to fake news of the plane being found in Bermuda Triangle - the missing Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370 is undeniably one of the hottest topics discussed online. It’s one of the hot searches on Google Trends.
Curious users across the world have started conversations on whereabouts of the missing plane on different social netwoking platforms. From aliens, UFOs to Chinese conspiracy - people have explored all the possible theories, thus proving that on internet everyone's an expert. Over here are some of the craziest theories we've come across online.
Bermuda Triangle
One of the politicians from Malaysia tweeted "New Bermuda Triangle detected in Vietnam waters, well-equipped sophisticated devices are of no use!" Videos of the missing plane found in Bermuda Triangle went viral on Facebook and Twitter. The photos that were used for promoting the video were actually from an April 2013 Lion Air plane crash near Bali. The fake videos which were malware and links to fake survey have been removed by Facebook.
Aliens
Twitter was flooded with tweets from users who blamed aliens for abducting the Malaysian plane.
YouTube wasn’t any different; users like
DAHBOO77 and
thirdphaseofmoon uploaded videos that apparently point out UFOs and aliens behind the disappearance of the flight. However, it’s been now found out that the UFO in DAHBOO77’s video is Korean Airlines Flight 672!
An Edward Snowden Connection
Reddit user Dark_Spectre posted a mind boggling theory on the website’s conspiracy board. He posted “So we have the American IBM Technical Storage Executive for Malaysia, a man working in mass storage aggregation for the company implicated by the Snowden papers for providing their services to assist the National Security Agency in surveilling the Chinese.. And now these 20 Freescale Engineers whom work for a global leader in embedded processing solutions (embedded smart phone tech and defense contracting) with equal NSA ties (Project PROMIS), all together on a plane..And now disappeared. Coincidence.” He goes on to suggest that the plane was kidnapped by Chinese or “sanitized by American authorities. He added “ Honestly, what would 200 lives be to the Chinese intelligence community for the opportunity to find out "exactly" the depth and scope of our intrusion. Or perhaps US intelligence got late wind that their flying brain-trust of 21 were going to be arrested/detained/interrogated upon landing in China and the US intelligence community deemed the risk too great to their Asian based espionage programs and took appropriate action to "sanitize" the plane midflight."

Plane stolen; will be used as weapon
One of the users on You tube commented that “They know exactly where it is, as many satellites the world has they know every move made. I believe it has landed, pple dead, and will be used as a weapon. They have changed out the transponder to pretend it is another plane and go detected. It will show up as another FF. either in the US, Israel or Russia. Just mho”. Also, it was one of the questions asked to CNN's expert panel assembled by Don Lemon for the channel's #370Qs (on missing Malaysian plane) series on Twitter.
Courtney Love finds the missing plane
The singer jumped on the bandwagon and posted on her Facebook page a photo of what she thinks shows the missing plane and an oil slick.
Now let's come back to sane things about internet - the social networking platforms were filled with messages of hope and prayers for the passengers and crew members of the missing plane. #PrayForMH370 was trending on Twitter as users across the globe waited in hope that 227 passengers and 12 crew on board will return safely. YouTube Tribute Video of Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah
Meanwhile, some of the recent news reports suggest the pilot’s involvement in the disappearance of the flight. Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah was a staunch supporter of Malaysia’s opposition leader and many fear that he might have hijacked the plane as an anti-government protest. However, his friends have dismissed these reports as untrue and have uploaded a tribute video named Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah on youtube. Within a week the video has been watched 180,000+ times and covered by major newspapers.
The 3.53-minute video begins with the caption “A tribute to a man well loved by many. Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah, the guy we all call Ari, Uncle Ari and Tok Mamu Ari.” and features images of the pilot in his younger days with family and friends. The video ends with the plea “Please come home, we miss you. Uncle Ari, we patiently and anxiously await your safe return, along with the rest of your crew members and passengers. Insyaallah.”
