Google had earlier talked about its release on authorship markup that lets content creators claim the articles they’ve written. In an official Google blog post dated 7 June, 2011, the company said “The markup uses existing standards such as HTML5 (rel=”author”) and XFN (rel=”me”) to enable search engines and other web services to identify works by the same author across the web. If you’re already doing structured data markup using microdata from schema.org, we’ll interpret that authorship information as well.”
Now Google is going a step ahead with the markup by trying to showcase the author in the search results page. The author information will not always be displayed on the search engine results as the feature is being rolled out gradually and will be implemented algorithmically. “We’re piloting this new search experience with a small sample of authors who have linked their Google profile with their content”, said the company on 28 Jun 2011 onGoogle’s official blog.
Here’s how the author’s picture and name will be displayed, and both will be clickable and will direct the reader to the Google Profile of the author.
